STEP 01
Set up the right way
Fifteen minutes, once, and everything after this gets easier.
- Create your account at claude.ai and get the Pro plan ($20/month). The free tier is for browsing; Pro is where the real capabilities live.
- Download the Claude desktop app. That's where Cowork lives, the mode that lets Claude work with your real files and tools instead of just chatting.
- Connect your calendar and email when it offers. The more it can see, the more it can do for you.
STEP 02
Learn the one prompt pattern
Search terms get search results. Give Claude the same brief you'd give a sharp new hire: Role, Context, Constraints, Output. One page, with a real sales example you can copy.

STEP 03
Run the Starter Interview
The single best first prompt. Instead of you prompting the AI, it interviews you, writes the briefing document that becomes its memory of you, then hands you ten tailored ways to use AI, ranked by impact. Copy it, paste it into Claude, answer honestly.
I want you to act as my new AI sales assistant, and this is our first day working together. Before you do anything for me, interview me so you actually know my world. Ask me one question at a time, and wait for my answer before the next one. Cover: what my company sells and to whom, what a typical deal looks like (size, length, who's involved), my sales process from first touch to close, what a great week looks like for me, where my time actually goes right now, and how I like to write and communicate. If one of my answers is vague, ask a follow-up instead of moving on. When you have what you need, do three things: 1. Write a one-page briefing document about me and my selling world, organized so you can use it as your memory of me going forward. 2. Based only on my answers, list ten ways you could take work off my plate, ranked by how much time and money each one is worth to me. 3. Mark the three to start with this week, and what you'd need from me to begin.
